Whimsically illustrated, The Flower Ball
by Sigrid Laube and illustrated by
Silke Leffler is delightful children's book that delivers an
important message of acceptance to young readers.
When Cauliflower
and Carrot decide to go to the Flower Ball, it causes quite a
stir among the beautiful flowers attending the ball. Ignoring
the judgment of the flowers, Cauliflower and Carrot begin to
dance the night away, enjoying a Snap-Bean Rumba, a Cucumber
Tango and a Chili-Pepper Cha-Cha-Cha.
Appalled by the
non-fragrant vegetables attending their perfumed party, the
flowers declare, “The idea of some perfectly strange vegetables
showing up at our ball—they’re nothing but tedious soup-wallowers!”
Once the flowers catch sight of Cauliflower and Carrot dancing
beautiful steps, though, the flowers applaud. Soon after, the
flowers let down their guard and enjoy a wonderful night dancing
with the vegetables, and a vegetable-flower friendship blossoms.
